Triptych

The Road to Damascus, 2006 Triangle, 36" x 36" x 36" (91.4cm) Eclipse, 2006 Circle, 24" diameter (61cm) Acrylic, oil, and marble dust on polymer substrate and canvas

The central image in the triptych, The Road to Damascus imagines a modern reshaping of St. Paul’s journey toward spiritual enlightenment. The triangular format reminds us of the true central character in the painting: the Christian concept of the three aspects of the Creator.
The verso element, Eclipse, with its circular and embracing format, brings us closer to the Destination.

The recto element — should I ever paint it — will signify the completion of the journey. I think it will be called Shamayim, which is the Hebrew name for the dwelling place of God and other heavenly beings.

Perhaps the fact that this segment represents the End is why I have not completed the triptych.
