Mask and Frankenfoods

24.75" x 24.75" (62.9cm x 62.9cm) Oil and acrylic on polymer substrate, pebble sand, and canvas

“Mask” isn’t just a painting – and “Frankenfoods” aren’t really about the food. They both represent a playful romp through Frank’s kaleidoscopic imagination, where every shape and color dances together to create a delightful whole. Like a chef crafting a masterpiece from a plate of ingredients, Frank rearranges disparate pieces to form a face that looks a tad surprised. But is it really just a mask, or did Frank paint a glimpse of himself, caught in the act of rearranging life’s puzzle pieces?

With the mischievous twinkle in his eye, Frank loved to conjure faces from thin air -sometimes even borrowing bits from your dinner plate to add to his canvas.  Did he ever give back those borrowed items? Who knows! But one thing’s for sure: just like the mesmerizing “Frankenfoods” he created, “Mask” is a fascinating feast for the eyes.

To draw viewers closer, Frank added terrarium pebbles to the paint, creating a raised texture that beckons to be touched. As the light dances off the surface, a subtle sheen emerges, adding another layer of intrigue to the whimsical masterpiece. So go ahead, take a closer look – you might just discover a piece of yourself reflected in “Mask’s” playful gaze.
